Current Music Interests

Prior to moving to New York City, I was primarily interested in Chicago House and Techno House, and stuff like REZZ and any EDM with the profuse verbiage that classifies it.

Once I moved to NYC and started going to various places here, my tastes moved from slower house and tribal house (Kora), to faster sets primarily by local DJs. This city has so many options and scenes, the sheer number of events and good music to listen to can easily overwhelm. After lots of sleuthing I did find out that no one really spins house from the late 80s or early 90s like Katarakt’s playlists, though they will use samples and remixes, or new tracks entirely, in a haze of genre blending. At least in the clubs. The house scene is known to be mostly underground with “40 year olds doing cocaine”, and you get into those by meeting people over and over. That said there’s still plenty of house-adjacent sound, Nowadays plays a lot of that on Sunday evenings.
